Ford Halts F-150 Truck Production Due to Parts Shortage

Ford Halts F-150 Truck Production Due to Parts Shortage

In the aftermath of halting all production of its best-selling F-150 due to a supplier fire at a Michigan-based plant, Ford says it has a solid inventory of the truck in the USA and does not anticipate any sales losses as a result.

Other impacts from the supply shortage, included suspension of F-150 production at Kansas City (Mo.) Assembly Plant and at the Dearborn (Mich) Truck Plant.

A fire at a Ford supplier has put production of its most important vehicle, the F-150 pickup truck, at risk.

A company spokesperson said he doesn't know when production will begin again. Ford said it has a strong inventory of trucks sitting on dealer lots and doesn't expect the plant shutdowns to immediately affect sales. Ford said it needs to suspend production at more than one facility because of supply chain problems. "It's a full team effort and we're confident that any impacts will be short-term". The two plants are the only ones that make the truck in the U.S.

Ford Motor Company has been forced to stop production of the F-150, F-250 and F-350 due to a shortage of chassis components after a key supplier had a massive factory fire. The F-Series accounts for the majority of Ford's annual profits.

F-150 trucks are a multibillion dollar enterprise.

So far Ford has been hit hardest by parts shortages.

But the most significant impact was felt by Ford, whose F-150 full-size pickup is the best-selling vehicle in the United States. Of course, that doesn't include custom orders, so any Ford truck ordered right now will be delayed for an undetermined amount of time.

The supplier issue has also halted Ford Super Duty production in Kentucky, although that plant will continue with a reduced workforce to produce other Ford products.

The crisis began last Wednesday when an explosion and fire knocked out production at a plant run by Meridian Lightweight Technologies in Eaton Rapids, Michigan, about 80 miles from Detroit.
