Manchester turns to music to mark one year anniversary of terror attack

An estimated 3,000 singers were thought to be at the open-air Manchester Together - With One Voice event to perform songs by some of the city's most successful bands.

The former is made up of people who were caught up the attack a year ago, while the latter saw their post-attack tribute - a version of Ariana Grande's My Everything - go viral and earn them the chance to perform with the star at the One Love Manchester concert.

Following the attack, Grande put on a benefit concert in Manchester for the families of those affected.

After performances by several choirs, the crowd joined in a mass sing-along of tunes including Grande's "One Last Time", "Look Back In Anger" by Oasis - an unofficial anthem of Manchester after the bombing - and The Beatles' "All You Need is Love". The video pays tribute to the Manchester bombing victims with the image of a bee, a symbol of the city.

Rachel and Mia, from Bolton, said they had come "to show we won't be beaten and show you carry on and remember those who died".

The 24-year-old organised a tribute concert, dubbed "One Love Manchester", which was held at the city's Old Trafford cricket ground on June 4 last year and featured artists that included Liam Gallagher, Little Mix, Coldplay, Justin Bieber and Katy Perry.

They were joined by front-line responders and volunteers who helped in the tragic aftermath of the end of last year's Ariana Grande concert.

Meanwhile, Prince William remembered the 22 victims of the Manchester bombing by attending the Manchester Arena National Service of Commemoration at Manchester Cathedral, according to the reports. "My heart is always going to be in Manchester, always has been and always will be".

Among the dignitaries who were present were the Duke of Cambridge, Prime Minister Theresa May, Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon, Lib Dem leader Sir Vince Cable, Greater Manchester Chief Constable Ian Hopkins, Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham and Sir Richard Leese, the leader of Manchester City Council.

The victims were represented by 22 lit candles on the altar, which were made using wax from the thousands left in their memory by mourners in St Ann's Square at the time of the attack. Twenty-two concertgoers were killed, and police say more than 800 people were left "with physical and deep psychological injuries".

Bells on the city hall and churches rang out at 10:31 p.m., a year since the bomb exploded.

The lyrics of the song resonate with the message of remembrance and moving forward.
