'Sherlock Holmes 3' Back on Track with 2020 Release Date

"Sherlock Holmes 3" is set to hit cinema screens on December 25, 2020, it's been revealed.

The film comes after "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" was released back in 2011, with the second movie in the franchise bagging a whopping $545.4 million at the worldwide box office.

It feels like we've been waiting forever for the next Sherlock Holmes instalment - the Robert Downey Jr. starring one that is.

While most of his focus has been on the MCU, it wasn't the only thing he got up to during this time as the actor was also the lead in another popular, though much smaller franchise: Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes. Combined, the first two films grossed net worth of 1 billion dollars.

Robert Downey Jr. has been talking about a threequel in the press and the project is bound to happen with Jude Law also returning. There has been no director attached to the production. Hopefully, we will hear some positive news on this soon. But Sherlock Holmes deduces that the prince has been the victim of murder-a murder that is only one piece of a larger and much more portentous puzzle, designed by Professor Moriarty. The other film, which is now filming, is "The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle", in which Downey Jr. will be seen playing a character who can speak to animals.

With the movie opening in December 2020, it will be in direct competition with the animated Sing 2, and untitled live-action Disney movie and James Cameron's Avatar 2.
