Shooting at Nashville mall leaves 1 victim critically injured; suspect in custody

Police say both suspect and victim are 22 years old and from Nashville.

The shooting could not be heard over scenes in the new Avenger's movie. The retired officer was at a nearby ticket booth when witnesses ran in screaming, "Shooter!"

Troopers immediately responded to assist the Metro Nashville Police Department. Authorities said the mall was evacuated, the adjacent Grand Ole Opry House and convention center were put on lockdown, police officers responded in force, and at least a half a dozen ambulances converged on the scene.

While police maintain that the shooting was an isolated incident, they did say that there would be an increased police presence on site.

According to the Nashville Fire Department, the person is in critical condition.

Investigators are still hoping to establish the 2 men fought and also what prompted Demarco Churchwell, who died Thursday at a healthcare facility to be supposedly shot by Justin Golson. Police said the gunman then gave up his weapon and surrendered, saying he didn't want any more trouble.
