UFC 224: Mackenzie Dern submits Amanda Cooper with rear-naked choke

Jiu-jitsu ace Mackenzie Dern (7-0 MMA) kept her ideal mixed martials arts record intact at last night's UFC 224 event in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil by scoring a first-round subsmission victory over Amanda Cooper.

Mackenzie Dern and Amanda Cooper were scheduled to fight at UFC 224 at the women's strawweight limit. Despite the weigh-in slip-up by Dern, she and Cooper will still be part of a main card that will be main-evented by Amanda Nunes defending her bantamweight title against Raquel Pennington. Who would you like to see her fight next? A lot of things have been happening. But there was a point where the weight wasn't going away any more. I missed flights and a lot of things happened and I just kept going and going.

"I'm ashamed of that and I don't want it to happen again ... but it's a mistake".

She won her most recent contest against Angela Magana at UFC 218 in December.

Dern did make it clear that she plans on never letting this happen again, and a way of making sure it does not is to go to the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"I've always wanted to fight here in Brazil", she said.

It will be Dern's second fight in UFC. "Since the first day I got here, the UFC was trying to help me and was saying I'd be able to make weight, and I did it last time". I went and ran and everything came off, so it's ideal.' ...
