Kim Kardashian Celebrates President Trump's Commutation of Alice Johnson

When Kim Kardashian West learned that Alice Marie Johnson - a nonviolent drug offender serving a life sentence - would be freed, she broke the news to her while sobbing on the phone.

Trump commuted Johnson's life sentence on Wednesday, following Kardashian's high-profile campaign. Johnson said her role was that of a go-between, relaying messages but not personally making drug deals or selling drugs.

Johnson told her legal team and Kardashian that she feels like she has been "resurrected from the dead", Barnett said.

"I would tell President Trump thank you so much". So, I'll do what I have to do ... to get you out or make this happen if I have the power to do that, ' " she said. "It's a miracle day". "Since being incarcerated she has been a model prisoner who mentors women and has become an ordained minister", she wrote.

She said the President "felt it". "I'm free to live life".

"I started screaming, and crying and jumping. My heart is just bursting with gratitude".

Kardashian West described the moment via Twitter.

Trump discussed Johnson's case with reality TV star Kim Kardashian at the White House last week, when she appealed to the president on prison reform.

I sacrificed so much to be at this event. "I enjoyed the court and I think I've played my best match so far here". It was in Melbourne that Sharapova tested positive for meldonium after which she served a 15-month doping ban.

- Kim Kardashian West (@KimKardashian) June 6, 2018The phone call I just had with Alice will forever be one of my best memories. When West heard Johnson's story, she tweeted that she didn't find it fair. As soon as she stepped out of the van, she ran toward waiting family members who greeted her with hugs, flowers and tears.

On May 30, Johnson spent another birthday in prison while West went to the White House to advocate for her release. Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law and advisor also met with West to discuss his efforts on prison reform.

Last week, Kardashian's meeting with Trump in the Oval Office was widely mocked on social media.

Johnson's case caught nationwide attention after the reality-television star Kim Kardashian West took notice of her case past year and retained an attorney to help her clemency bid. Adding, "he really understood, and I am very hopeful that this will turn out really positively".

CNN reported Johnson has already "served 21 years of her life sentence after she was convicted on charges of conspiracy to possess cocaine and attempted possession of cocaine". Johnson, 63, was serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole after being convicted of a first-time nonviolent drug offense.

They also acknowledged that her warden, case manager, and vocational training instructor had all written glowing letters in support of her clemency. While Kushner was pushing for the pardon, Trump's White House counsel Don McGahn was reportedly skeptical about the decision having merit, according to a source.

As clemency petitions work their manner by way of the system, the president routinely denies the "overwhelming majority" of requests, a White Home official stated.
