Manuel Lanzini out of World Cup for Argentina

Following Manuel Lanzini's training ground injury on global duty, Inter Milan's talismanic striker Mauro Icardi is being lined up as his replacement for the Argentina squad to travel to Russian Federation this summer for the World Cup.

Lanzini, 25, was looking to establish himself in the national team after an impressive season with Premier League side West Ham United.

The 25-year-old has worked his way into head coach Jorge Sampaoli's plans and scored his first senior worldwide goal against Italy in a 2-0 friendly win at the Etihad in March.

Argentina could well have done with a supplemental talent like the Hammers man, too, with forwards Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala crying out for a steady supply of ammunition.

China: Tariffs by US would wipe out trade progress
The talks were focussed on getting China to move ahead with its recent promises to increase energy and farm imports from the U.S. The 50-member strong U.S. raised topics including additional Chinese purchases of USA exports.

West Ham fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment at the news and with their superstar well in his recovery from a nasty injury.

Jorge Sampaoli chose to pick Lanzini ahead of Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi, who scored 29 goals in Serie A last season.

"Enzo Perez will be the player to replace Manuel Lanzini", the handle was quoted.

Argentina are in Group D at Russian Federation 2018, beginning their campaign against Iceland on June 16.
