Pompeo Says 'Real Progress' Made Toward Trump-Kim Summit

Gingrich said Friday's meeting between Trump and North Korea's top official, Kim Yong Chol, was a sign that Kim had realized Trump was a "much tougher guy" than previously thought.

Prospects for the historic meeting between President Donald Trump and North Korea leader Kim Jong-un took centre stage at a weekend Asian security conference attended by defence chiefs from over 40 countries, with sentiments ranging from guarded optimism to downright scepticism.

"The relationships are building and that's very positive", he said.

"We talked about ending the war, and you know, this war has been going on - it's got to be the longest war - nearly 70 years", Trump said.

It quoted Mr Assad as saying on Wednesday: "I am going to visit [North Korea] and meet Kim Jong-un".

Trump voiced his hope North Korea will go along with full denuclearization and will support economic development. "I think South Korea will do it".

US defense and intelligence officials have repeatedly assessed the North to be on the threshold of having the capability to strike anywhere in the continental USA with a nuclear-tipped missile - a capacity that Trump and other US officials have said they would not tolerate. "They want to develop as a country. And the dance is going to go on for a while", Gingrich said. "I have no doubt". "That's something that could come out ... of the meeting" on June 12, he said.

Pompeo said on Thursday that, after what have now been two meetings with Kim Jong Un and three with Kim Yong Chol, he believes the North is at least ready to consider addressing United States demands for denuclearization. The announcement came after Trump hosted a senior North Korean envoy at the White House, who conveyed a personal letter by Kim that was inside a white envelope almost as large as a folded newspaper.

During a recent press briefing, POTUS was telling the media about an interesting letter that was sent to him by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. "If we believe that, we will never be able to negotiate with them and make peace with them".

USA defense and intelligence officials have repeatedly assessed the North to be on the threshold of having the capability to strike anywhere in the continental US with a nuclear-tipped missile - a capacity that Trump and other US officials have said they would not tolerate. "The process will begin on June 12 in Singapore". Hours later, Trump said the summit was potentially back on.

Now that President Trump has declared the meeting back on, after canceling it last week, it's a question that may need to be answered swiftly. Though North Korea has still offered no public commitment to denuclearization, Mr. Trump dropped his vow to apply "maximum pressure" to the regime, saying, "I don't want to use that term because we are getting along". I don't respond to these comments, I just take it as an affirmation of the work that our officials have done to get us this far.
