Twitter memes dunk all over JR Smith's blunder in NBA Finals

Twitter memes dunk all over JR Smith's blunder in NBA Finals

JR Smith grabbed the offensive rebound but ran down the clock instead of attempting a game-winning shot.

The Warriors have been favourites in the previous three Finals, but this time around the Cavaliers are overwhelming underdogs with nobody giving them a chance.

And all that was just J.R. Smith.

After the game, though, the veteran claimed he was aware of the situation.

"I think it's great for the league to have the two best teams make it to the Finals, and that's what took place, the two best teams in their respective conferences are representing them", said analyst Mark Jackson on the press call. Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue said Smith mistakenly thought the team was leading, and didn't need the basket.

"Feels like ages ago that I saw them for my first National Basketball Association championship, and now to be doing it for a fourth year in a row, I wouldn't have guessed that, so it's pretty remarkable", said guard Klay Thompson. "Clearly that wasn't the case".

It's groundhog day once again with the Cavaliers facing the Warriors in a fourth consecutive NBA Finals.

Nipah virus scare: No need to panic; adopt good hygiene practices
Two more Nipah-infected people are undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. The disease is being linked to fruit bats, who infect fruits, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) website.

The final minute was marred with controversy as the visitors were incensed by a huge call made by the referees down the stretch.

With the scores tied and less than five seconds remaining, Cavs guard George Hill missed a free throw that would have put them in front, forcing the Warriors to go down the end and try to win it, without the safety net of overtime should they miss.

"I tried to bring it out and get enough space to maybe get a shot off", said Smith.

Two of the game's biggest stars, yapping at each other like they were playing in the schoolyard, rather than in front of an audience of millions, was a spectacle.

James had his highest-scoring playoff game ever, tied Jerry West for the most 40-point games in a single postseason with eight and nearly single-handedly led the Cavs to the win. Behind 29 points, six rebounds and nine assists from Curry and 26 points, nine rebounds and six assists from Kevin Durant, Golden State managed to survive.

The Cavs shot 32 percent on 206 attempts from three in the Eastern Conference Finals. It took seven games in the first round against in and they needed a superhuman effort from LeBron James against Boston in the conference finals, winning four of the final five games of the series to punch a ticket to the Finals.
