Batwoman Series In the Works | News

Greg Berlanti, the man behind the Arrowverse, among many other successful shows, is developing the new DC series with Caroline Dries, known for her work as showrunner on The Vampire Diaries.

Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on The CW's hit television shows, the Batwoman series, and San Diego Comic-Con coverage when the convention begins.

The lesbian superhero's story revolves around the story of Kate Kane, an overachieving military student who was dismissed from the military academy for her sexuality and gender preference. But with self-destructive tendencies just like her ally, Kane must first fight her demons before saving the city of Gotham.

A recent iteration of Batwoman ended in controversy when the idea of Kane marrying her longtime female partner was rejected, WhatCulture reported. Variety details that the project hasn't yet been picked up, but if it does, it's expected to premiere in 2019. On TV, Batwoman first appeared in animated series Batman: The Brave and the Bold, which premiered on Cartoon Network in 2008.

Batwoman is already scheduled to visit the Arrowverse for the annual crossover event in December; she may now become a permanent member of it, expanding the universe and breaking some TV ground in the process.

US officials play down hopes for Trump-Putin meeting
Coming directly from Scotland after his visit to Britain, Trump will hold talks with Putin on Monday with only translators. Putin proposed that same plan after they met at a Group of Seven summit in Germany a year ago .

Originally introduced in the 1950s as a love interest for Batman to dispel rumors of homosexuality, Batwoman has since been the highest-profile openly gay character from any DC comic.

Batwoman's alter-ego is Gotham City vigilante Kate Kane, a "highly trained street fighter" and Army brat who was expelled from West Point because of her sexuality, the paper said.

The far more popular version of Batwoman - and the one most likely to appear in the Arrowverse - was introduced in the 2006 DC weekly, 52, by Geoff Johns, Grant Morrison, Greg Rucka, Mark Waid, and Keith Giffen. Now, she'll be the first gay lead character, male or female, of a live-action superhero show.

The CW's superhero offerings are filled with gay characters. Could Batwoman be the potential bridge to Gotham, and perhaps even to the DC streaming service's upcoming Titans series led by former Robin Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites)?
