Longest lunar eclipse: Mars coming closest ever to Earth in 15 years

Longest lunar eclipse: Mars coming closest ever to Earth in 15 years

Moore said that from 9.30pm until 10.15pm on Friday, the blood red colour of the moon will be dim and if there's any haze in the sky, it could make viewing hard.

Those with the best views will be able to see the lunar eclipse at key moments - when earth's shadow begins to cover the moon, when the moon turns red, and when the shadow begins to recede.

But with cloudy skies across the Philippines forecast for the whole week and a southwest monsoon, weather forecasters are not optimistic Filipinos will get a good view of the eclipse.

But you're going to need to be in the right place to see it - and it's nearly a blink-and-you-miss-it event.

Southern star-gazers are about to get a once-in-a-lifetime glimpse at a "blood moon" like no other.

The July 27th lunar eclipse will last almost 108 minutes beginning with a partial eclipse at 18:24 UTC.

A total lunar eclipse occurs when the entire Moon enters Earth's shadow. On the one hand, during its orbit, the Moon will be at its furthest distance from the Earth.

The red color is a product of Earth's atmosphere, which scatters light from the sun and it is reflected onto the moon. Some light, though, will still reach the moon because it is bent by the earth's atmosphere.

In East Africa, a partial Eclipse will begin at 21:30, "bloody moon" will be visible between 22:30 and 00:13. Friday's will be long, lasting 1 hour and 43 minutes.

"This smaller and slower-moving full moon takes more time to cross the Earth's shadow than does a full moon that is closer to Earth and moving faster in orbit".

North Korea transfers remains of Korean War soldiers: White House
The plane will take the remains to South Korea and a formal repatriation ceremony will be held on August 1, the White House said. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told Congress on Wednesday North Korea was continuing to produce fuel for nuclear bombs.

You don't need any kind of special equipment in order to see the Blood Moon 2018 on July 27 as it will be visible from the naked eye.

Because blue and violet wavelengths are scattered more than red and orange, more of the red wavelengths reach the Moon, making it appear that shade.

"Our event is sold out, we have about a couple of hundred people that are booked in to come and watch it with us", said Andrew Jacob, curator at the Sydney Observatory, located right near the Harbour Bridge. That is why we often have orangey-red skies at sunset and sunrise. However, each lunar Eclipse can be observed from more than half of the globe.

In Metro Manila, Manila Bay will have one of the best vistas, he said.

Looking to the southwest, the big event will kick off at around 1.14am on Saturday morning, at which point the moon will start to move into the Earth's umbra (its shadow), gradually becoming darker.

The super blue blood moon that occurred earlier this year was also a total lunar eclipse, but it coincided with two other events to make a lunar trifecta.

The moon is expected to turn reddish as against the familiar whitish appearance in the period of totality.

Look at the Moon today and you'll see a barren rock, but that might not always have been the case.

The Earth is in waiting of a total lunar eclipse.

In Ukraine the phase of the total lunar Eclipse will occur on July 27 at 23:21 (20:21 UTC).
