Trump denies knowing about his son’s Trump Tower meeting with Russians

Sources told CNN that Cohen claims that then-candidate Trump had advance notice of the June 2016 meeting in Trump Tower involving Donald Trump Jr. and is willing to assert that claim to special counsel Robert Mueller.

If Trump Sr. did indeed know about the meeting and approved of it in hopes of getting compromising information on opponent Hillary Clinton, "that could be collusion", Rivera said.

"I think he's brought stability, ironically, to the president's campaign but more importantly he's exposed the partisan exploits and excesses of [special counsel Robert] Mueller and [former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James] Comey", said Stone.

But this week, he has taken a sharply more aggressive and public turn, seeming to wage open warfare with the White House while weighing whether to cooperate with investigators.

"I did NOT know of the meeting with my son, Don jr", Mr Trump wrote on Twitter yesterday.

After the co-hosts brought up Trump's response, even invoking "crooked Hillary" again, Behar remarked, "He dares to call her crooked Hillary still, when he is the biggest crook".

Fox reports that the claim about the meeting was one of the "most valuable potential pieces of information" Cohen possessed. It was MSNBC's Katy Tur, who has since written a book about her time covering Trump on the campaign trail.

Cohen has no audio recordings or other evidence to corroborate his claim of Trump's advance knowledge of the meeting, CNN also reported.

Davis told CNN that Cohen had "turned a corner in his life. hit a reset button" and was "now dedicated to telling the truth". The audio is muffled but Trump can be heard saying something about "cash", and then something about paying by "cheque".

"So yeah, it would be embarrassing if it turns out to be true", he concluded, "it isn't helpful to Donald Trump, but it doesn't seem to me that it hurts him in a legal sense".

Rudy Giuliani, the president's attorney, told CNN's Chris Cuomo on "Cuomo Prime Time" Thursday night that Cohen is a liar and has been lying for years.

Cohen is under federal investigation in NY.

Revelations of Cohen's possible testimony come just days after a 2016 recording of a conversation between Trump and Cohen appeared to show the president was informed of a payment created to prevent news of an alleged affair with a Playboy model from coming to light.

Mr Trump was also keen to make his own statements on the global economy on Friday, telling reporters during a briefing at the White House that the United States was "the economic envy of the entire world".

Cohen says on the tape with Trump that he's already spoken about the McDougal-story payment with the Trump Organization's finance chief, Allen Weisselberg, on "how to set the whole thing up".

Trump Jr. famously replied: "I$3 f it's what you say I love it".

"I believe it was a mistake by those from the Trump campaign who did participate", he told ABC News.
