Trump Picks Conservative Judge For Supreme Court Opening

The morning after announcing his second Supreme Court pick, President Donald Trump said Tuesday he did not discuss the abortion issue with new nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

The letter criticizes the jurist's record. The letter states 'We write today as Yale Law students, alumni, and educators ashamed of our alma mater.

Kavanaugh's many written opinions provide insight into his thinking and also will be fodder for Senate Democrats who will seek to block his confirmation.

The newfound urgency to fill Justice Kennedy's #SCOTUS seat from numerous same people who refused to even consider President Obama's nominee is transparent opportunism that represents everything Americans hate most about politics today.

Kavanaugh was picked to replace the retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy. His confirmation is complicated by an unusually long record as an appellate judge and as a George W. Bush administration official - and also his role as part of the Kenneth Starr investigation of President Bill Clinton.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (L) makes brief remarks before meeting with Judge Brett Kavanaugh (R) in McConnell's office in the US Capitol, in Washington, DC, on July 10, 2018.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., pointed to the Women's March statement as proof that he was correct when he said Sunday that Trump "could nominate George Washington and the left would go insane". She recognized her gaffe immediately but did not quite correct it, adding: "And I know - I know, this is on tape, and I should never say that because we don't make law".

The Council President told reporters: "Politicians come and go but the problems they've created for their people remain". Johnson resigned on Monday, adding to divisions over Brexit that threaten to tear apart May's government.

"This is political", the Vermont independent, who caucuses with Senate Democrats and ran for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, said in an interview. The issue may eventually come before the Supreme Court, where Kavanaugh's view of the CFPB could prevail.

The food-related exposé comes shortly after another bombshell earlier this week, this from The Washington Post, in which a woman who knows Kavanaugh personally revealed in an op-ed that the judge is a "carpool dad" and "one great guy".

"There's been some pre-judging - which is unfortunate - before people get to meet him", she said.

Sen. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania was the first senator from a red state to come out against the nominee, even before Trump announced who it would be. But he says it would be much more complicated to overturn the decades-old decision. They can't afford to lose one vote over this nomination fight.

"A seat on the Supreme Court would let Kavanaugh and his allies expand attacks on the ability of government to regulate and enforce the rules on behalf of ordinary people", said Linda Jun, senior policy counsel at Americans for Financial Reform.

KING: Leonard Leo advised President Trump on his judicial nominations. His financial disclosures reveal that his assets are worth between $15,000 to $65,000, placing him at the lowest amongst Supreme Court Justices in terms of net worth - or about 10 times less than Justice Clarence Thomas, who now holds the title.
