Madonna defends 'self-indulgent' Aretha tribute amid outrage

Madonna defends 'self-indulgent' Aretha tribute amid outrage

Then there was some rambling about living in a crack den (is this Madonna's version of "Jenny From The Block"?) before she circled back to Franklin long enough to tell the crowd to show the late singer some R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

She also wrote that she could never do Franklin justice with a tribute amid the noise and tinsel of an awards show.

Though Aretha Franklin had been battling pancreatic cancer for years, she passed away without writing a will.

"This does not sound like a tribute to me", another said. My dream was to make it as a professional dancer, after years of struggling and being broke, I chose to go to musical theatre I heard the pay was better'. I had no training or dreams of ever becoming a singer, but I went for it.

And the beginning of Madonna's tribute to the late Michael Jackson at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards seemed all too similar to the speech she gave in honor of Franklin on Monday.

Pakistani men pull a camel after buying it at a livestock market ahead of Eid-ul-Azha in Karachi on August 20, 2018. It is celebrated with much more fanfare, as families come together to break their fast with a huge feast.

"Just to clarify: I was asked to present video of the year by MTV!" But critics say Madonna's speech was only about Franklin on the surface. Madonna said weeks later, one of the producers from the audition called her and said though she wasn't right for the job, they saw potential in her and wanted to bring her to Paris to meet famed songwriter and producer Giorgio Moroder.

"You do not disrespect an ICON like that", wrote Nina Parker on Twitter. This is a jovial kiki about Madonna's broken a- journey. "The AUDACITY", another fan noted. Aretha or Madonna? Definitely Aretha... Madonna's VMAs posts, including one that mentioned the hashtags "respect" and "arethafranklin", racked up hundreds of comments after the awards show.

Luckily, we were all spared that torture, but it still didn't stop fans (and probably the ghost of Aretha herself) from being all the way pissed off that the Queen of Soul had been dealt such a dumpster fire of a tribute. You and @MTV should be ashamed.

"Wha.what is going on here?!??"

Madonna didn't take the insult lightly, however, later writing, "Anyone who wants to do a tribute to Prince is welcome to". Thanks for paying homage and personalizing it to your life. And I know she influenced so many people in this house tonight, in this room tonight. I Love Camila! I love my dress! AND.
