Woods-Mickelson showdown reportedly set for November

A much-anticipated Tiger Woods vs. Phil Mickelson 18-hole match is moving closer to being finalized, Woods' agent said, and it appears it will happen over Thanksgiving weekend, ESPN.com reported. In the piece, Mickelson said, 'It's a ridiculous amount of money.

ESPN have reported today that the event will take place at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas on Friday 23 November or Saturday 24 November.

The Ryder Cup is September 28-30, and any match that takes place between Woods and Mickelson would not occur prior to then. Woods last triumph came in the 2008 US Open while Mickelson won The Open in 2013.

The two star golfers have had a contentious relationship during their careers, though they have been brought together recently due to a variety of factors including on-course struggles and appearances representing the United States at the Ryder Cup.

Mickelson and Woods both opened the tournament at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio with four-under rounds of 66 to hold a share of 14th, four strokes back from leader Ian Poulter. When they were paired at the Players Championship a month later, marking the first time they'd played in the same group at any PGA Tour event in almost four years, Mickelson proposed the idea.

"I just think it would be something that would be really fun for us to do, and I think there would be a lot of interest in it if we just went straight to the final round", he said.

"I'm definitely not against that". At times, it has been strained, though it has softened in recent years as both players became heavily involved in the U.S. Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup efforts. "We'll play for whatever makes him uncomfortable".
