Roger Federer stunned at US Open by unseeded Australian

Roger Federer stunned at US Open by unseeded Australian

Federer was scheduled to play 55th-ranked John Millman of Australia in the fourth round on Monday night.

Kei Nishikori will be hoping to make another deep run at his most successful Grand Slam event after he easily outclassed Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-3, 6-2, 7-5 to reach the quarter-finals.

Not since Pat Rafter handed a tantrum-throwing Federer a tennis lesson on the then-18-year-old's grand slam debut at Roland Garros in 1999 had an Australian conquered the great Swiss at a major.

"It was nearly unreal", Kyrgios reportedly said after the match, adding: "If anyone else is doing those shots against me, I'm probably not too happy".

"I just couldn't get into my game".

Nishikori was glad he didn't need more than three sets in the blazing sunshine on Louis Armstrong Stadium. Federer served 10 double faults and committed a frankly staggering 76 unforced errors throughout the match, which helped pave the way for easily the biggest win of Millman's career.

Following an injury interrupted campaign in 2017, Millman closed out the calendar year ranked 128th overall.

In negotiating a compromise with Brown and the California judiciary, she said, the authors of SB 10 abandoned those principles. Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez-Fletcher, D-San Diego, carried the bill on the Assembly floor Tuesday.

The victor will play Novak Djokovic, who easily accounted Joao Sousa of Portugal 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 earlier in the day.

In the final tiebreaker, he double-faulted twice in a row. Nearly got to the point where I wanted him to start making shots like that, and I finally got it.

"I felt like a bit of a deer in headlights to begin with, to be honest with you", Millman said. Roger had it on a string, he was manipulating me around the court.

Things grew tougher in the second as a sluggish Djokovic laboured before again clinching the set with a break.

With chants of, "Let's go, Roger, let's go", in the background, he blasted a blistering forehand victor that exploded past a lunging Federer to go up 8-7 then finished the set off with a big first serve.

Having never previously beaten a top-10 opponent, he appeared to have even less chance with Federer a set and a break up and holding two set points.

Federer hit back midway through the fourth, breaking Millman to 15 to offer himself a lifeline in the match.
