SpaceX books private passenger flight around the Moon

The big reveal on who it is - and when the flight to the moon will be - will be announced Monday at the company's headquarters in Hawthorne, California.

SpaceX now has a $1.6 billion contract with NASA to supply the astronauts living at the ISS, via regular cargo trips on its Dragon spaceship, launched aboard a Falcon 9 rocket.

SpaceX has also set up a livestream for the announcement on Monday. When the trip goes ahead, it will be the first time someone has traveled as far as the moon since NASA's Apollo missions in the late '60s and early '70s, and also the furthest into space that a private passenger has ever traveled.

Other non-astronauts that have flown into space include inventor Gregory Olsen and multimillionaire Dennis Tito, the first tourist in space, after he paid $20 million to spend 8 days on the ISS in April 2001.

Accused CBS producer is a no-show at work following Moonves resignation
The donation, which will be made immediately, will be deducted from any severance pay that CBS may owe Moonves. He continued: "In my 40 years of work, I have never before heard of such disturbing accusations".

It's one small announcement for SpaceX, one potentially giant leap for space tourism. The original 2018 launch ended up delayed as it took longer than expected to get the Falcon Heavy ready for flight.

The Big Falcon Rocket (BFR) the company plans to use hasn't been built yet.

Musk's SpaceX and Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic are among the companies attempting to commercialize space travel.

Musk described a slightly scaled-down 348-foot-tall rocket in September 2017 and announced that the private space company aimed to launch two cargo missions to Mars in 2022. We're probably looking at years of testing and planning before the BFR is ready to carry a human passenger, and taking them to the moon and back is much different than ferrying someone to the ISS. The window for launching to Mars occurs every two years.
