Tesla Stock Falls as CEO Appears to Smoke Marijuana on Video

"After two weeks or so at the company, Morton concluded he wasn't being heard or understood", according to the CNBC story, which quoted an anonymous source close to Morton.

Mr Morton said: "Since I joined Tesla on August 6, the level of public attention placed on the company, as well as the pace within the company, have exceeded my expectations", according to a company filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

Even before Musk's surprise August 7 tweet that he had funding "secured" for a go-private deal, Tesla had been under scrutiny from investors, analysts and short-sellers as it works to hit production targets and slow its cash burn.

Musk stunned investors a month back with tweets saying he had funding to take the company private for $420 per share. He brought up specific details such as equity change of control provisions and potential step-ups in the value of Tesla's debt associated with a new controlling shareholder. As for the figure, Musk said that $420 "seemed like better karma" than $419. Morton claimed he couldn't keep up with the company's jarring path. Today also stands as Tesla VP of Comms Sarah O'Brien's last official day at the company.

"I think people should be nicer to each other", he said.

The victor will play Novak Djokovic , who easily accounted Joao Sousa of Portugal 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 earlier in the day. Things grew tougher in the second as a sluggish Djokovic laboured before again clinching the set with a break.

A screengrab of Tesla boss Elon Musk smoking marijuana. Musk has said he expects the company could turn profitable in the second half of this year. CFO Deepak Ahuja retired in 2015, only to return in 2017 after his successor, Jason Wheeler, quit after just 15 months.

Morton, who is walking away from a $350,000 base salary and a $10 million new-hire stock grant that would vest over four years, said he believed "strongly" in Tesla and that he had no disagreements with the company's leadership or its financial reporting.

Morton is the latest in a wave of execs who have recently left or announced they would leave the company, including engineering leader Doug Field and communications chief Sarah O'Brien.

Statements from Chief People Officer Gabrielle Toledano have not been reported as of writing.

The plunge in Tesla's stock comes just a day after Elon Musk expressed his support for a report estimating the U.S. sales figures for electric cars now available in the United States.
