Did you win the Mega Millions lottery? Here are the numbers

Despite strong ticket sales, there was no grand prize Mega Millions victor Friday night. Most winners opt for cash, which for Friday night's drawing would have been $565 million.

The jackpot will be divided proportionately if there is more than one victor, as happened when the previous Mega Millions record of $656m (£500m today) was drawn in March 2012.

The 24 semi-weekly Mega Millions drawings have failed to produce a top victor since July 24, when an 11-member office pool in Santa Clara County, California, shared a US$543 million jackpot.

Mega Millions is played in 44 U.S. states as well as Washington DC and the Virgin Islands.

Lottery officials increased the grand prize just hours ahead of the Friday night drawing.

As more tickets sell, chances grow that at least one buyer will pick all six winning numbers.

According to the journalist's fiancee, he was invited to the Saudi consulate in Istanbul but never left the consulate building. Rubio's comments come a day after Trump vowed "severe punishment" for the United States ally if they were found responsible.

The string of enormous Mega Millions jackpots in recent months has been the natural result of officials changing the rules of the game last October to make jackpots pay out less frequently, as The Washington Post reported. Ticket sales for the next drawing end at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.

A single winning ticket would be eligible for a cash payout of $268.6 million.

So why do the jackpots keep growing to such astronomical figures?

The previous record set was for $656 million with shared winners in Kansas, Illinois and Maryland in 2012. While there was no jackpot victor, one ticket in New Hampshire, along with 14 other tickets nationwide, won at least $1 million. Most states also tax lottery winnings.

What were the Mega Millions winning numbers?

Tickets cost $2 each, and players choose five numbers between one and 70 and an extra number between one and 25.
