Jatwan Craig Cuffie Is Butler High School Shooting Suspect

A Butler High School student was fatally shot during a fight with another student around 7 a.m. Monday, according to CMS Superintendent Clayton Wilcox.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District said on Facebook that the weapon had been secured by law enforcement. Wilcox also talked about school security, saying the officials didn't know how the suspect got a gun on campus but said that all bags were searched going into the school.

They said the shooting occurred after a fight that broke out shortly after the start of the school day.

Police have advised that there is no further immediate danger at this time and the initial investigation shows this to be an isolated incident. Matthews Police confirmed the student died from injuries related to the shooting after they were taken to the hospital.

Fox 8 reported the incident stemmed "from a student conflict".

Parents were alerted to the incident via a robo call issued by CMS.

Palestinian agree ceasefire after exchange of fire with Israel
Hundreds of Palestinians had converged along the zone as part of ongoing demonstrations against Israel's decades-long occupation. The report comes after Egypt and the United Nations exerted pressure on Israel to restore calm between the IDF and Hamas.

The school was placed on lockdown after the shooting, WSOC said. Butler, located in Matthews, has 2,000 students.

The shooting happened at Butler High School in Matthews, N.C., approximately a 25-minute drive southeast of Charlotte, N.C.

Classes went on as scheduled for students who opted to stay on campus, CBS Charlotte reports.

Brenda Kenyon, Ryan's mother, said police at the scene told parents to gather at nearby Elevation Church. The mother of a student, Christina Sawyer, told WBTV, "She said there was just an argument and that the argument turned into him brandishing a gun".

No one else was injured. "What makes it doubly hard is that it was one of our students who was the shooter".
