The new Porsche 911: All you need to know

The new Porsche 911: All you need to know

Just in case we'd forgotten what the old 911 looked like, Porsche brought along an example of every generation, including the oldest 911 model now held in Porsche's collection, a red 1964 coupe. Meanwhile, Porsche hasn't revealed their torque output yet - the current 991-based Carrera S makes 450Nm of peak torque.

The new-generation Porsche 911 bears the internal name 992 - a numerical baby step away from the previous generation Porsche.

While the 992 911 is larger in every vital dimension, Porsche has only confirmed that the front track is 45mm wider and that it has a slightly longer wheelbase for improved interior and drivetrain packaging.

The new Porsche 911 was unveiled at the Los Angeles motor show and shows off the next generation of flat-six turbocharged engines has been further developed and is more powerful than ever before, with 331kW in the S models. For 2020 it cranks out 443 horsepower, up 23 from before. With the PDK, a Carrera S Coupe hits 60 miles per hour in just 3.5 seconds. And power is now delivered via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (apparently, a manual option will eventually be offered, too). Three-pedal fanatics will need to hold their orders for "a later date".

The body is significantly wider than before - 45 mm wider at the front, in fact - to house wheels that measure up to 20 inches at the front and 21 inches at the rear. The new Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with a larger 10.9-inch touchscreen display (up from 7.0 inches in the previous car) and comprehensive connectivity, optional Adaptive 18-way Sport Seats Plus with improved lateral support, re-tuned PASM dampers, and extended digital features all ensure greater comfort and everyday usability.

A new "Wet Mode" that automatically detects low grip conditions, interestingly by using water sensors inside the fenders that detect the flow of the stuff off the front tires. The changes over other 911 models are mostly functional, with cooling requirements and additional downforce taking clear priority over stylistic concerns.

Nintendo Switch Sales Top the Wii's Over Thanksgiving Weekend
In total, Nintendo generated over $250 million in the United States alone during the five day holiday period. The pick of the deals is the Nintendo Switch Neon Red/Neon Blue Console for £237.99.

"The 992 is also available with a night vision system dubbed Night Vision Assist which shows up on the display to the right-hand side of the rev counter".

Despite the predictable same-again styling, the new 911 has been extensively reworked under the skin. While the nose is quite similar to what we've seen on the 991, bigger changes are found at the rear, with clean, seamless rear lights running the entire width of the rear of the vehicle.

The 911's more muscular look includes wider wheel housings.

Bigger changes are found after you pull those handles to get inside.

One of the big changes on the inside of the vehicle is a new-to-the-911 infotainment system complete with 10.9-inch touchscreen display - part of a new "Porsche Advanced Cockpit" - that Porsche hopes will appeal to a younger demographic that likes its cars connected as well as quick. The 2020 911 Carrera S starts at $114,250, while the Carrera 4S starts at $121,650. You're looking at a starting price of $113,200 for the former, while the later will set you back $120,600. About 1,400 of the 8,200 cars and SUVs that Porsche sold past year were 911s, which now start at $104,000 and rise to more than a quarter-million dollars. More importantly, it could open the door for a hybrid version of the 911 down the line - at least, we saw that with the Panamera.
