CNN Fires Analyst Marc Lamont Hill After UN Speech on Israel

CNN fired Marc Lamont Hill on Thursday after the longtime contributor made comments about Israel during a United Nations speech. Campus Reform shared that news exclusively on its site.

There are perhaps no words more terrifying to hardline supporters of the State of Israel today than "from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free". "This day should demand actions that will re-instate the role of the United Nations as an global institution who's mission is to realize peace and justice", states the coordinator of the political parties in the Ramallah district, who read out a letter written to the UN secretary General, then presented it to the Representative at the UN Office in Ramallah. The right-wing online hysteria proved too much for CNN to bear, so they dropped Hill within hours.

Rallies are organized every Friday throughout the West Bank by popular resistance committees which demand an end to Israel's policy of unbridled settlement construction on occupied Palestinian land.

A two-State solution where Israel and Palestine live side-by-side as sovereign nations is still "the only option" for lasting peace, and "containing the situation is not sufficient", United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said on Wednesday, marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

"Marc Lamont Hill is no longer under contract with CNN", spokeswoman Barbara Levin told The Washington Post.

"He [Hill] has advocated the killing of Jews".

Haley also sought in June to amend an Arab-backed General Assembly resolution blaming Israel for violence in Gaza and deploring its "excessive use of force" by adding a condemnation of Hamas attacks on Israel.

The statement said "more fundamentally, it is premised on the values of freedom, justice and humanitarian principles that Africa defends in worldwide fora alongside all those striving to ensure that Palestine regains its right to exist as a key State in a region considered the cradle of humanity, religions and prophets, a region that the world has the obligation to preserve".

Some mainstream Jewish groups, including the Anti-Defamation League, expressed frustration with Hill's remarks, which also included endorsing the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement against Israel.

The French wire agency Agence France Presse straightforwardly reported on the MSF's statement - at least in its French-language coverage, which made clear that MSF "calls on Israeli and Palestinian authorities to facilitate ... the transfer of injured people out of the enclave under blockade when necessary".

Though Lamont Hill is no longer with CNN, Temple University stands by him. Marc Lamont Hill does not represent Temple University and his views are his own.

"This includes their support, contrary to worldwide law, for moving the United States embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem; blaming unarmed peaceful protesters in Gaza for their deaths at the hands of the Israeli army; and actively supporting legislation that impinges on the constitutional right to boycott" added the JVP, in its statement.

Hill, on his Twitter feed, attempted to clarify his remarks.
