India vs Australia: India is 'smelling blood' concedes Australian coach Justin Langer

India vs Australia: India is 'smelling blood' concedes Australian coach Justin Langer

With Australia set to line up without a fast-bowling allrounder after dropping Mitch Marsh in favour of middle-order batsman Peter Handscomb, Paine acknowledged on the eve of the Test that he was wary of putting his bowlers to work in the heat.

Paine said his message to the team was to keep their cool but also play to their strengths.

With the world's number one Test nation awaiting them in Adelaide in the first of four Tests from Thursday, Paine said it was time to start looking forward. "We know most likely at some stage in this series we'll need him, so we're taking the opportunity at the moment to send him back to play a Shield game, get more cricket under his belt, knowing at some stage we're probably going to need him".

The new side has three Vics in the top six, with with Harris's opening partner Aaron Finch and Handscomb also from Victoria.

Most encouragingly, Australia is back on home turf where the likes of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon flourish.

"We know he's good enough to be a genuine all-rounder at test level".

"We're keeping an eye on "Uzzie", obviously it was a little bit of a shock for him yesterday", Langer said on SEN radio.

Chinese regulators declined to clear the deal, though the country later expressed regret over the transaction's collapse. The deal, which was originally announced in 2016, was approved by eight other regulators around the world.

"As this series wears on, and we get to places where the wicket might be a bit flatter and conditions might be a little warmer, our bowlers will be a bit exhausted then the all rounder position becomes important", said Paine. So for India to be really effective if they can get a good start when they bowl against Australia, then Australia will be under serious pressure.

"Travis Head bowls some handy off spinners so we have options there but we'll be backing our bowlers", he said.

The two cricketers were on their way from a practice season at the Adelaide Oval to the team hotel, which is situated close to the iconic venue which will be hosting the first Test from December 6.

"The wicket over the last few years here has given enough throughout the game".

This is somewhat of a gamble to take in the first day Test at Adelaide Oval in four years, particularly if Virat Kohli calls correctly at the toss and bats first with temperatures expected to soar to 39 on Thursday and into the mid-30s the following day.

"You want to bat on days when it's 40 degrees", said the wicketkeeper.
