People Are Freaking Out About An Accidental Instagram Update

Getty Instagram introduced a surprised update Thursday morning that changes the way users navigate the app.

The bug led to a small test being distributed widely, the company said.

The update that rolled out to some users has flipped the feed on its side, displaying posts in a horizontal format that you can swipe or tap through - just like Stories.

The unwelcome change soon trended as #instagramupdate on Twitter, with some users comparing it to the dating app Tinder.

Instagram is a sacred way to pass time and share life updates for many.

A statement sent by Instagram spokeswoman Paige Cohen said that "due to a bug, some users saw a change to the way their feed appears today".

Dems would OK money for border security, no wall
How is the shutdown playing out? In New York City the Statue of Liberty was still open, thanks to state money. They have offered to keep spending at existing levels of $1.3 billion for border fencing and other security.

One Twitter user posted: "Instagram removing the update so fast bc of the hate was the greatest thing I've ever seen a social media community do". The horizontal feed seemingly only affected the main feed while it was active, as user profiles still used the standard scrolling feed.

For a while now, users of the app have been getting increasingly annoyed at the algorithm's refusal to show a chronological feed and now, Instagram have gone and made even more of a drastic change.

News of the Instagram update actually surfaced back in October, according to TechCrunch.

The Instagram update didn't affect everyone.

Instead of scrolling up and down like you normally would, users now have to scroll left to right. In effect, the entire feed turned into a Story, with tap controls as well as a progress bar up top.
