Salihamidzic: De Jong is on Bayern’s radar

Salihamidzic: De Jong is on Bayern’s radar

The Ajax midfielder has emerged as one of Europe's most sought after talents, with Barcelona and Manchester City heavily linked to him over the last few months.

Manchester City, Barcelona and PSG were said to be at the front of the queue for De Jong's signature, with reports in the Netherlands suggesting the Ligue 1 champions had jumped ahead of their rivals.

"It would be great for Ajax, a huge compliment", the 48-year-old stated. Ajax are into the Champions League knockout stages, while the Dutch national team are suddenly beginning to look quite good - despite missing Euro 2016 and the World Cup they topped a Nations League group featuring Germany and France.

As well as spending some of his young career in defence, De Jong is a deep-lying midfield playmaker who also likes to dribble.

De Ligt is not the only huge prospect at Ajax - defensive midfielder Frenkie De Jong has been courted by numerous biggest clubs in Europe.

She also said she found "great hope" in young women today, who she described as "charging forwards" in areas like maths and science.

In an interview with The Guardian on Thursday, De Jong admitted he is uncertain over where his future lies. 'Then we will see.

"The rumours appeared again today and I'm sure it will stay like this for a while, but I think we're handling it well". I don't pay attention to it.

"I hear the stories but I just want to finish this season well".

"His vision and the quality of his passing that breaks the lines make him very valuable, especially because he also intercepts a considerable amount of balls". Despite this, it says the transfer, which will surpass Davinson Sanchez's £42m move from Ajax to Spurs to become the biggest in Eredivisie history, is now "expected" to happen. "After that, he will make his own choice".
