Trump and Republicans Shift to Blaming Pelosi for the Shutdown

President Donald Trump on Sunday pinned the recent deaths of two migrant children on the southern US border on his usual political foe, the Democrats, along with what he called "their pathetic immigration policies".

"We will be forced to close the Southern Border entirely if the Obstructionist Democrats do not give us the money to finish the Wall & also change the ridiculous immigration laws that our Country is saddled with", Trump said in a morning tweet.

While refusing to work with President Donald Trump to find a compromise on border security, which resulted in the government shutdown, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is vacationing at a luxurious Hawaiian resort, a tradition for the wealthy Pelosi. Marco Rubio (R) offered a lukewarm critique of the White House's handling of the no-end-in-sight shutdown that's lasted almost a full week.

The shutdown, which began December 22, affects nine of 15 federal departments, dozens of agencies and hundreds of thousands of workers.

The threat yet again upped the ante in a political row that has led to a partial shutdown of the United States government and seems set to dominate the start to the third year of Trump's presidency.

He blasted Democrats, including Senate leader Chuck Schumer, for supporting border security measures - including a wall - in 2006 and 2011 before abandoning the position when President Trump took office. During the brief session in the House, Republicans shot down a Democratic attempt to vote on legislation to reopen the government.

As Breitbart News reported on Friday, reports revealed that Pelosi was spending the shutdown at a luxurious resort in Hawaii.

In surprise Iraq trip, Trump defends decision to withdraw from Syria
The Iraqi prime minister recently said Iraqi troops could deploy into Syria to protect Iraq from threats across its borders. It was a day late to qualify as the kind of iconic holiday trip to celebrate with USA troops that George W.

But that won't accomplish anything unless Trump and the Republican-controlled Senate go along with it. The White House would have to notify Congress if it wanted to cut or reallocate aid, which could delay or complicate the process. "Have the Democrats finally realized that we desperately need Border Security and a Wall on the Southern Border".

"Any deaths of children or others at the Border are strictly the fault of the Democrats and their pathetic immigration policies that allow people to make the long trek thinking they can enter our country illegally", Trump wrote on Twitter.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador reacted cautiously to Trump's threat to close the border, calling it an "internal affair of the US government".

"We don't think they will [negotiate] until after the new Congress is sworn in", he said. Instead, Trump has been working to end the shutdown, though he maintains he will not sign a spending bill that excludes funding for a border wall. Experts have warned that cutting off aid money to El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras could actually exacerbate the problem by worsening the poverty and violence that push many migrants to leave.

He has repeatedly threatened to cut off USA aid to countries that he deems have not done enough to combat illegal immigration, but thus far he's failed to follow through.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador reacted cautiously to Trump's threat to close the border, calling it an "internal affair of the USA government".

"Nobody wants anybody to struggle", she said. "We must be diligent in protecting trade relations with our neighbors", Gonzalez said in the statement.
