Cleveland Browns hire Freddie Kitchens as head coach

Kitchens began the year as a running backs coach for the Browns, and has been coaching in the National Football League as an assistant since 2006.

Baker Mayfield with Freddie Kitchens as his OC: 180-of-263 (68.4%), 2,254 yards, 19 TD, 8 INT. Kitchens, who was a three-year starting quarterback at Alabama, wasn't afraid to be creative as he used wide receiver Jarvis Landry on running plays and to throw passes, and he got major production from rookie running back Nick Chubb, left tackle Greg Robinson and receiver Breshad Perriman - three players under-utilized by Jackson and Haley. His completion percentage improved by over 10 points under Kitchens as well.

The Browns will be looking for Kitchens to turn around their fortunes going forward and are hoping that by making him their head coach, he can continue to develop Mayfield into top quarterback.

Manchester United line up £45m bid for Serie A defender
Manchester United are reportedly planning to consult Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when deciding on the future of a number of top players. United will travel to Dubai for warm-weather training after Saturday's game, and Solskjaer warned it will not be a holiday.

"When you cause a defense to flinch a little bit or if you cause the defense to overthink a little bit, then maybe you have them on their heels instead of their toes", Williams said of Kitchens in late November, per ESPN's Pat McManamon.

According to Browns beat writer Mary Kay Cabot, "signs are pointing" to the Browns hiring offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens as head coach. The 29-year-old does, however, only have two years of coaching experience, 2017 as a graduate assistant with San Diego State University, and this season with the Browns.

The Cleveland Browns have relieved interim head coach Gregg Williams of his duties, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano. It is expected that Kitchens' staff will be announced in the coming days. Williams was the first candidate to interview for the coaching vacancy. Back when he was on Bruce Arians' staff in Arizona in 2013, he felt two pops in his chest, his vision blurred, and he went numb. Stefanski was the only known candidate to receive a second interview, which came on Tuesday January 8.
