Comedy legend June Whitfield has died, aged 93

Absolutely Famous actor June Whitfield has died at the age of 93.

Her agent confirmed the actress, made a dame past year, had died "peacefully".

She is best known for her role as the mother to Jennifer Saunders' character in the sitcom Absolutely Fabulous.

Fellow Ab Fab actress Joanna Lumley told ITV news she was "heartbroken to lose such a darling friend", who would "always have a most special place in my heart". "As long as that keeps happening, I am delighted to carry on, this is what I love doing". "Thoughts go out to her family and friends", she wrote.

Comedian Jenny Eclair tweeted simply: "Beautiful, amusing June Whitfield- a friendly Goddess".

"There was never one moment when I decided", she said.

Aged 92, she was appointed a dame at Buckingham Palace.
