Eagles Kicker Jake Elliott Defends Bears' Cody Parkey After Missed FG

Mistakes at work happen, but if you miss a field goal that ends your team's season, that apparently entitles sports fans around the country to suggest death threats on your home, family, and your life.

The Chicago Bears were trailing quarterback Nick Foles and the Philadelphia Eagles by one point with 10 seconds left in their NFC Wild Card game.

Parkey hit the first kick he tried ... but Eagles coach Doug Pederson used his final timeout before the snap to freeze the kicker.

Parkey said he didn't know what went wrong on the kick, other than he missed. Cody is a heck of a kicker and will be for a long time.

"I thought I hit a great ball and was trying to play the wind", Parkey said. It meant the Bears missed out by the slimmest of margins as the Eagles scraped through.

It was the seventh time this year Parkey has missed a kick by hitting the pipes, and if you couldn't believe it, clearly the Bears couldn't either.

The moment was instantly dubbed the "Double Doink" thanks to the sound made by the ball as it twice rebounded off the uprights and was referred to as such by a host of media outlets reviewing the game.

"I feel bad", Parkey told reporters after the game. "I take that loss on me".

The Eagles will next face the Drew Brees-led Saints in the divisional round, while the Bears begin to embrace the offseason.
