Ellen DeGeneres Seemingly Responds to Kevin Hart Interview Backlash

"It reminds me of when Kavanaugh got into the Surpreme Court and it was like, is he the only one you could possibly find in this country to do that job?" she asked.

In a Friday interview with Variety, Hart said that while hosting the annual awards ceremony would have been a dream come true, he's more interested in looking to the future than the past.

The motion picture Academy has not named a replacement host for its February 24 awards show. "But I don't believe in going backwards".

"I believe in forgiveness". And I believe in @KevinHart4real.

In an emotional interview airing Friday, DeGeneres revealed to Hart that she called the Academy this week to urge that the Central Intelligence star be brought back, and was told that officials would be "thrilled" if he did. I'm sorry. But either my apology is accepted or it isn't.

Degeneres told Hart that she forgave him for his comments and encouraged him to ignore the "haters" so he can host the event with "sophistication, class, [and] hilarity". We feel like that maybe he misunderstood or it was handled wrong or maybe we said the wrong thing but we want him to host. Whatever we can do.

Ellen DeGeneres has come to the defense of comedian Kevin Hart, saying he should be able to host the Oscars in spite of recent backlash over tweets that resurfaced from years ago. "I don't care how many sitcoms you lost in the 90s" another chimed in. "Don't pay attention to them", DeGeneres said.

Hart told DeGeneres he was "evaluating" retaking the hosting position.

DeGeneres also specifically addressed Hart's homophobic tweets, telling the actor, "As a gay person, I am sensitive to all of that".

There were fewer boos then, perhaps out of shock more than anything. "There were some nerves", tight end Hayden Hurst said. The Jackson-led running attack was too much for Cleveland (7-8-1), which was denied its first winning season since 2007.

Ellen agreed, and Hart continued: "Another day goes by. this fire's angry, it's all over the place", he said.

But Nick Levine, a United Kingdom journalist who writes about pop culture and LGBTQ issues, told the BBC: "Like Ellen DeGeneres, I believe in forgiveness and second chances, but I also believe those things need to be earned".

The Academy didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. This wasn't a coincidence. I've yet to go back to that version of the immature comedian that once was.

"One's the president, the other's a comedian", tweeted one such commenter.

"Keep in mind, I'm not homophobic". I don't want you to have to wait, so now it's gonna air tomorrow.

"I had to address it when I did Get Hard promo with Will Ferrell, because of my joke that I had about my son".

"I said, 'Kevin's on. And I'm praying that this happens". "So why set yourself up for failure?" But the same trolls who caused Hart to back out of the awards show turned on DeGeneres for accepting Hart's apology to the LGBT community.

"We are a huge group of people who love you and want to see you host the Oscars". "You can't let them destroy you and they can't destroy you because you have too much talent".
