For the First Time, Plants Have Been Grown On the Moon

Despite some climate challenges, such as the Moon's changing temperatures, Chinese state media posted a picture of the cotton seeds on Tuesday, and said the seeds were sprouting.

Images sent back by the probe show a cotton sprout has grown well, but so far none of the other plants has taken, the university said.

According to Chinese state media, the USA was among half-a-dozen countries that have collaborated with China on the lunar project.

Finally, the Chang'e-8 mission will test technologies and do "some preliminary exploration for countries to jointly build a lunar research base in the future", Wu said.

The idea is that the plants produce oxygen and food for the fruit flies.

There is still a long way to go before a sustainable habitat could be developed on the lunar surface, but the experiments could be fairly considered to have started that project.

China has released unbelievable footage of the descent of the Chang'e-4 spacecraft which shows the historic moment of the first landing on the far side of the Moon.

The China National Space Agency's Chang'e 4 lander is exploring the mysterious side of our lunar neighbor that faces away from Earth.

Kelly’s lawyer issues denial of sexual misconduct allegations
At the same time, Greenberg said he didn't think Kelly's career would be hurt by the allegations. The singer has denied all allegations of sexual misconduct involving women and underage girls.

The Chang'e-4 lander, which carries the 3 kg biosphere, imaged by the Yutu-2 rover on the far side of the Moon in January 2019. We could probably make some nice sweaters from moon-grown cotton.

To the Australian Astronomical Association astronomer-at-large, Fred Watson, the development was "good news", reports the BBC.

Placed on the Chang'e-4's lander, the mini biosphere, which was developed by scientists at China's Chongqing University, is a sealed, heat-controlled soil, water and air-filled aluminum alloy canister that also contains potato, rapeseed and thale cress seeds, as well as yeast and fruit fly eggs. It's likely in the future if all the environmental conditions are met.

The pioneering landing highlights China's ambitions to rival the US, Russia and Europe in space through manned flights and the planned construction of a permanent space station.

According to Wu, Chang'e 6 will be on a mission to collect samples from the Moon's South pole and later missions will be created to conduct surveys of the surrounding area.

It is popularly called the "dark side" because it can not be seen from Earth and is relatively unknown, not because it lacks sunlight.
