‘Save The Dreamers’: WaPo Implores Pelosi To Take Trump’s Wall Deal

After signs from the White House that the administration had found an alternative way to pay for a border wall, Trump says he won't sign the Senate version of the spending bill.

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer is accusing Trump of "more hostage-taking".

BuzzFeed's top editor Ben Smith responded to Carr's statement by saying, "We stand by our reporting and the sources who informed it, and we urge the Special Counsel to make clear what he's disputing".

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer echoed her stance shortly after Trump laid out the details of his plan to reopen the government, now nearly a month in shutdown. But the plan faces an uphill path in the Senate and virtually no chance of survival in the Democratic-controlled House. McConnell calls it a fair compromise for ending the shutdown.

- $5.7 billion to add 230 miles (370 km) of steel barrier along the border.

McConnell had previously stated that no vote should be held in the Senate until Trump and Democrats agreed on a bill. "We voted for Trump and got Jeb!" she said, in a reference to Trump's 2016 rival, Jeb Bush.

Trump has struggled to find a way out of a four-week partial government shutdown over his demand to construct a wall between the US and Mexico.

"I appreciate the President bringing forward a proposal to secure our border and end the partial government shutdown". Secondly, our proposal provides a three year extension of temporary protected status, or TPS, this means that 300,000 immigrants whose protected status is facing expiration will now have three more years of certainty so that Congress can work on a larger immigration deal.

Saturday, Pence was asked why immigrants should trust President Trump, who once accused Haitians of bringing AIDS to the United States and who said immigrants from places like Haiti and Nigeria came from "s-hole countries".

"It is imperative Speaker Pelosi and the House Democrat majority come to the negotiating table, consider the President's proposal, and actually have a conversation". On Saturday, he offered to give Democrats protections for DREAMers, those illegal aliens who were brought America when they were a child, in exchange for border security.

In a speech Thursday, the leader of the opposition Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn , called May's invitation to talk a "stunt". If the deal can not get through the Commons, there may be no other option but to leave without a deal.

Some conservatives say Trump's offer to help the Dreamers amounts to amnesty. But it's drawn nothing but negative reviews from Democrats so far.

The longest lapse in funding for parts of the Federal Government passed the one-month mark Monday with no substantive breakthroughs in negotiations between the White House and Democratic lawmakers.

Democrats speculated McConnell had another reason for deciding to intervene amid the monthlong stalemate between Trump and congressional Democrats: moving public opinion, which has pinned the blame for the shutdown squarely on Republicans. "For one thing, this proposal does not include the permanent solution for the Dreamers and TPS recipients that our country needs and supports".

On Saturday, Trump had offered Democrats three years of deportation protections for some immigrants in exchange for $5.7 billion in border wall funding.

That's according to three people familiar with the plans who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss them by name.

Trump's remarks from the Diplomatic Room on Saturday marked the second time he has addressed the nation as the partial shutdown drags on.

Vice President Mike Pence, who has been leading the administration's contacts with Congress, said the Senate would put the proposal to a vote as early as Tuesday.

The proposal was met with immediate criticism from some conservative corners, including NumbersUSA, which seeks to reduce both legal and illegal immigration to the U.S.

The debate over the border wall has left hundreds of thousands of federal employees furloughed as the president's budget stalemate with Democrats continues. He's referring to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who rejected his proposal to trade wall money for temporary protections for some immigrants.
