Senate Democrats block pro-Israel, anti-BDS bill

Senate Democrats block pro-Israel, anti-BDS bill

A recently sworn-in Democratic congresswoman found herself in hot-water for the second time this week; reportedly using an "anti-Semitic slur" on social media after calling President Trump a 'motherf***er'.

Trump bolted after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told him that more wall funding just wasn't in the cards.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) failed in his first significant legislative test of 2019, on January 8, coming up three votes short of the 60 needed to take up debate on Middle East policy proposals instead of Democratic bills to end the government shutdown.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., seems to be kowtowing to the radicals in his conference. Democrats have called a wall costly, ineffective and immoral.

Senate Republicans, of course, don't want to be forced to vote to keep the federal government closed, and would prefer simply to hide behind Trump.

Sen. Rubio, however, argued that Democrats remain defiant toward his proposed legislation, because "a significant [number] of Senate Democrats now support BDS", and that leaders within the Democratic Party want to avoid a floor vote that would reveal their support for the BDS movement's discriminatory economic warfare against Israel.

But the House plan, which would guarantee to fund for the Department of Homeland Security through February 8, doesn't give a penny to Trump's border wall, and even if the Senate got their act together on this, there's no guarantee Trump would sign it into law.

Sears agrees to consider revised Lampert bid
The deal was reached after days of "virtually round-the-clock negotiations", Sears attorney Ray Schrock told the court. The bankruptcy judge overseeing the case said that means Lampert's use of a credit bid has not been pre-approved.

McConnell said he wouldn't bring any spending legislation to the Senate floor for a vote that the White House opposes.

Sen. Ben Cardin of Maryland said the bills were uncontroversial and were broadly supported by Republicans in the past. They tweeted this weekend that the Senate should postpone consideration of any legislation that does not pertain to reopening the government. Pence is also set to speak with Senate Republicans on Wednesday.

"We knew going into 2019 that the Democrats would continue their reckless obstruction and grandstanding", the group said in an action alert to its members. But Democrats are split over the addition of Republican Sen. "We shouldn't be forcing these men and women to shoulder the burden of Democrats' unwillingness to work with GOP to solve the humanitarian and security crisis on our southern border", said Ohio Rep. But Trump has said he will not sign the measure, and McConnell has repeatedly said the Senate won't advance legislation the president won't support.

"I think the president made his position very clear today that there will be no deal without a wall", Pence said. "This shutdown is squeezing the finances of so many Americans, including thousands of federal workers who live in Virginia".

McConnell spokesman Don Stewart said in response, "It would be a stunning reversal for Sen. We've never had a better ally", the Democratic lawmaker stated. But he says border-security experts have urged more reliance on technological surveillance and increased border staffing, rather than a sea-to-sea wall constructed over rugged terrain.

The most outspoken critic has been Independent Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders who slammed the introduction of the bill in the midst of a government now in its third week.
