Trump gives no timetable for Syria troop withdrawal

The issue of the potential slaughter of those allies has been a point of contention even among Trump supporters in the days following his sudden announcement of the end of USA intervention in the Syria conflict.

Pentagon officials told President Donald Trump that his order to withdraw troops from Syria within 30 days was physically impossible without significant risk to U.S. forces, multiple informed sources tell CNN, and the new 120-day timeline is not an example of anything but reality, logistics, and physics.

In Monday Twitter posts, Trump blasted the "Fake News Media" and "failed Generals who were unable to do the job before" he took office for criticizing his approach, which came against the advice of the president's top national security advisers and triggered the resignation of Defense Secretary Jim Mattis.

He added: "I'm going to ask him to sit down with his generals and reconsider how to do this".

"They fight better when we fight with them", he said of the Kurdish forces.

Trump told Lt. Gen. Paul J. LaCamera, the head of United States forces fighting ISIS in the region, during his trip to Iraq last week that troops could have several months to ensure a succinct departure, two U.S. officials told the Times.

Mr Trump's troop pullout plan met strong criticism from major allies, and senior Republicans like Mr Graham.

On Sunday, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who is one of Trump's principal allies in an increasingly unfriendly Congress, lunched at the White House to urge a rethink on Syria. "To be able to leave Syria and make sure ISIS never comes back". "We're going to discuss the intense cooperation between Israel and the United States, which will also deal with the questions following the decision, the American decisions on Syria - on how to intensify even further our intelligence and operations cooperation in Syria and elsewhere to block Iranian aggression in the Middle East, to roll it back".

Aaron Rodgers injured as Packers lose season finale to Lions
His most recent head coaching duties came with the Detroit Lions from 2014-17, leading the team to the playoffs twice. Joe Philbin is serving as the Packers' interim head coach for the remainder of the 2018 season.

The president has long campaigned for the removal of USA troops from the Middle East, arguing that there was no benefit for the country to be involved in the many conflicts there.

Critics of Trump's decision for the withdrawal not only warn of a resurgence of ISIL, but worry that the withdrawal is a betrayal of US-backed Kurdish forces in Syria and leaves them vulnerable to an attack from Turkish forces.

"I get it. We're not the policemen of the world here".

"Slow this down. Make sure we get it right".

"If anybody but Donald Trump did what I did in Syria, which was an ISIS loaded mess when I became President, they would be a national hero", he tweeted.

"They can do what they want there, frankly", Trump said of Iran's presence in Syria.

A senior Israeli official said Wednesday that "Israel received nearly everything it wanted" during the meeting. That proposal would likely anger North Atlantic Treaty Organisation ally Turkey, where Tump's national security adviser, John Bolton, will hold talks this week.
