Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing to be 8th highest jackpot in game history

There is one jackpot victor in the New Year's Day Mega Millions drawing, according to lottery officials.

There were Match 5 winners of $1 million in NY (3), Ohio, South Carolina and Texas.

If the victor (or winners) choose the cash option, they'll get a little more than $254 million.

The ticket was sold at an auto service shop on Long Island.

Mega Millions says this will be the eighth largest jackpot in its history.

A huge spill-over crowd in a nearby auditorium joined in the loud celebration, cheering each green, or good, status update. From New Horizons' location, a radio transmission traveling at light speed requires just over six hours to reach Earth.

If a single ticket victor chooses the cash option for Tuesday's jackpot they'll walk away with a lump sum of about $254.6 million. The winning numbers were 34, 44, 57, 62 and 70, with a gold ball numbered 14.

Huang said he hasn't gotten word yet on who the lucky victor is - but that a lot of locals stop by to pick up their tickets.

The jackpot grew after nobody won Friday' drawing. That was back in 2008 when a victor in Texas took home $33 million.

The other three second-price tickets were sold in Ohio, South Carolina and Texas. The winning ticket was worth $142 million.
