Democrats launch new probe of Trump's finances, Russian Federation ties

In the panel's first act since Democrats took the majority, the House intelligence committee voted Wednesday to send more than 50 interview transcripts from its now-closed Russian Federation investigation to special counsel Robert Mueller.

Said Trump: "That wouldn't be partisan, would it?"

"If there is going to be peace and legislation, there can not be war and investigation", Trump said to audible groans from Democratic members.

The intelligence panel's new chairman, California Rep. Adam Schiff, had long said that sending Mueller the transcripts from the probe into Russian election interference would be one of his first actions. "We're going to do our job and won't be distracted or intimidated by threats or attacks".

Asked Wednesday about the progressing Russian Federation investigation and Schiff's promise of a deep investigation that could include Trump's personal financial dealings, the president was dismissive.

Schiff did not say whether he was referring to Mueller's investigation or his own.

One addition to the committee's newly established five lines of inquiry includes "w$3 hether any foreign actor has sought to compromise or holds leverage, financial or otherwise, over Donald Trump, his family, his business, or his associates".

"There's no need to wait until they are all finished to release any of them", he said. He also noted, "That pertains to any credible allegations of leverage by the Russians or the Saudis or anyone else". Democrats won control of the House, and now have the power - complete with subpoena powers- to investigate Trump's campaign, businesses and presidency. The Democrat also added that the intelligence panel will be aided by other congressional committees during their investigation. The Democratic chairs of the House Foreign Affairs and Oversight committees have previously indicated their committees would investigate some of the administration's policy choices. The transmission of the transcripts to Mueller, expected immediately, will give him full access to all of the committee's interviews.

"The special counsel's office, the Justice Department and its elements will now have access to those transcripts for any objective which will facilitate justice", Schiff told reporters after the committee's vote, adding that the transcripts will be sent to Mueller's investigators immediately.

In December, the committee voted to release to the special counsel a transcript of testimony provided by Roger Stone, a former Mr. Trump campaign associate. He has pleaded not guilty. The records they approved to be sent to Mueller's office involve committee testimony from about 50 interviews in the case.

Republicans Wednesday made motions to publish unclassified transcripts of interviews with the committee, but Democrats blocked them, saying there actually was some classified material in those transcripts, CNN reported.

The panel also voted down a GOP request to subpoena "witnesses whose testimony Democrats previously sought", according to a statement from Republican members.
