Now Apple clears Google, Facebook to run private iOS apps again

Google says Apple has also revoked its access to a key developer tool, preventing its employees from testing new app features on iPhones. The program allows the installation of apps that don't feature on the regular App Store, which is useful to developers who want to test apps before launching them, or to offer employee-only internal apps.

"Apple's view is that we violated their terms by sideloading this app, and they decide the rules for their platform", Facebook executive Pedro Canahuati said in the memo seen by Business Insider.

"We're working with Apple to fix a temporary disruption to some of our corporate iOS apps, which we expect will be resolved soon", Google said in the statement.

Apple's move today to revoke Google's certificate has blocked its use of early versions of Google Maps, Hangouts, Gmail and other pre-release beta apps, according to The Verge. That app also relied on the Apple enterprise program and Facebook subsequently lost its certificate.

Apple has made a decision to revoke Google's ability to offer employees-only iPhone apps.

Apple has restored Google's internal applications in the App Store. The app tracks the user's phone and extracts information. This app is completely voluntary and always has been.

Thousands gather in Caracas to rally support for Interim Pres. Juan Guaido
He said the pro-government Constitutional Assembly is studying the possibility of early parliamentary elections "this very year". Yanez is the first active Venezuelan general to recognise Guaido since he proclaimed himself president on January 23.

On Tuesday, the technology news site TechCrunch published a report detailing Facebook's research app and its public use, which violated the rules of Apple's program. Apple may have to revamp its enterprise developer program so that this secret practice is not repeated.

Internal apps like the Gbus transportation app and the company's cafe application have also been affected. Facebook said in its statement: "Key facts about this market research program are being ignored". As far as we know, nobody starved without access to the internal catering app.

"It wasn't "spying" as all of the people who signed up to participate went through a clear on-boarding process asking for their permission and were paid to participate", a Facebook spokesperson informed EURACTIV.

Then Google was caught doing almost the same thing with its Screenwise app.

Canahuati did, however, fail to mention that Facebook's research app was strikingly similar to its Onavo VPN app launched a year ago which was found to be tracking users' data and was also pulled from Apple's app store. Even the manner in which is it installed is near identical - the company gets users over the age of 18 to download the app via a special code and its enterprise certificate. Google has since disabled the app on iOS. Then a longer list of companies suspected of doing the same thing was drawn up, including companies like Square and Sonos (though Sonos looks to have removed the page recently).
