Venezuela Calls For Talks Between President Nicolas Maduro, Donald Trump

Speaking at the United Nations, Arreaza said that $30 billion had been "confiscated" from Venezuela since November 2017 due to Washington's tightening economic measures against the country.

Maduro has accused the USA of staging a coup against him over efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to his country amid widespread hunger and malnutrition.

Juan Guaido, recognised by most Western nations as the country's legitimate leader, slipped into neighbouring Colombia last week to lead an ultimately failed effort to bring humanitarian aid into the crisis-stricken country.

The clashes began after Venezuelan troops blocked U.S. aid convoys - which Maduro sees as an attempt to undermine his government - from entering the country. Violent clashes between protesters and the armed forces left nearly 300 wounded and at least three protesters dead near the Brazilian border.

In particular, the Montevideo mechanism envisages four stages: the immediate launch of a dialogue on the situation in Venezuela, the negotiation process, the drafting of an agreement and its implementation.

US Special Representative for Venezuela Elliott Abrams said Tuesday, following the UN Security Council meeting, that he believes there will soon be a UN resolution regarding Venezuela.

Effective today, the United States will impose additional sanctions on regime officials, including three border state governors implicated in last weekend's violence and a member of Maduro's inner circle.

Sergeant Javier Gonzalez knew he would be killed if caught deserting Venezuela's military to flee to Colombia, but the thought of his nine-month-old son suffering the lack of milk and diapers in his economically devastated country steeled his resolve.

He also said U.S. sanctions against officials of the Maduro regime will continue.

Pence also said the U.S.is preparing for a new set of sanctions created to isolate the government of President Maduro.

"We announced some sanctions yesterday".

While Colombian authorities said more than 160 soldiers deserted their posts and sought refuge across the border over the weekend, the highest-ranking among them was a National Guard major.

During a meeting with Venezuelan migrant families in Bogota, Pence said the U.S. will continue to provide assistance to the families and will stand with Guaido.

Maduro's regime has already denounced the United States for its delivery of aid and support of Guaido.

The US and 50 other countries have backed Guaidó, while China and Russian Federation have stood by Maduro's government.

Jorge Arreaza, Minister of the People's Power for Foreign Affairs in Venezuela called the violence on the border a failed "coup" and denounced the USA government for "organizing, financing, and leading this clear aggression against Venezuela".

"The humanitarian crisis is being used as a pretext for foreign intervention in my country", Arreaza said.

"Mr. Trump declared a humanitarian crisis in the south of the United States because he wants to build a racist wall", Arreaza said. He also accused Trump of hypocrisy, asking how the USA would respond if other countries tried to force aid through the southern U.S. border.

"Lets call a spade a spade, this is not humanitarian assistance", he said. Ask yourself that question.

"The voting is planned to take place tomorrow [Thursday]", the source said on Wednesday. "For the uninitiate, this is a form of torture, apparently having trained on their detainees on Guantanamo, the U.S. authorities now chose to force feed a whole country".
