Mueller’s ‘Pit Bull’ Is Leaving, Signaling That Russia Probe Is Nearly Over

Mueller’s ‘Pit Bull’ Is Leaving, Signaling That Russia Probe Is Nearly Over

The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday voted 420-0 on a resolution calling on the Justice Department to release Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report to the public.

But the resolution by itself can not force attorney general William Barr to publish more of the report than he intends to - and that is why even some of the Republicans supporting it complained that the measure was a waste of time.

Mueller is reportedly close to completing a almost two-year probe into Russian interference during the 2016 election, and possible collusion with the Trump campaign.

As Schumer tried to get the Mueller resolution approved by voice vote, the senator said on the Senate floor: "The American people have an undeniable right to see the results of that investigation". Russian Federation denies involvement in hacking to influence the result of the 2016 USA presidential election.

The four "present" votes came from two libertarians who routinely oppose such resolutions, Reps.

Weissmann was also part of the team that prosecuted Manafort's business associate, Rick Gates, who pleaded guilty past year and agreed to co-operate, and that investigated unregistered foreign lobbying efforts in Washington. The resolution also calls for the full report to be released to Congress.

Rep. Steve Scalise, R-Louisiana, said the end of Mueller's investigation is "long overdue" and that he must be transparent with the public. Res. 24, legislation urging the public release of Special Counsel Mueller's report and underlying evidence.

Though they voted for the resolution, many Republicans expressed skepticism about the wisdom and likely success of Democrats' quest. In addition, David Archey, the senior FBI official involved in the Mueller investigation, was named to a new job this month as the top agent in the FBI's field office in Richmond, Virginia.

"[Barr] understands the questions and turmoil this has caused", Collins said.

At the same time, an overwhelming majority of Americans believe there should be a public report on what Mueller finds.

The nonbinding resolution puts House Republicans and Democrats on the record in support of disclosing Mueller's findings as Democrats continue to spar with the Justice Department over whether they'll receive the special counsel's full report and materials from his investigation.

At his Senate confirmation hearing in February, Barr was asked about sharing Mueller's report upon its completion.

Six House committee chairs introduced the resolution on Friday.

"Those are also going to be things that we are going to have to litigate", Collins said.
