Sheila Copps Stands By Controversial Twitter Statements About Jody Wilson-Raybould

The scandal revolves around allegations from Trudeau's former attorney general, Jody Wilson-Raybould, claiming his inner circle tried to shield SNC-Lavalin from a bribery trial.

According to testimony by his former Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould, Canada's first indigenous woman to hold that position, she was pressured by the government to drop criminal proceedings against the influential Quebec-based SNC-Lavalin engineering company for allegedly bribing Gaddafi-era officials in Libya and allow it to settle out of court through a so-called "deferred prosecution agreement" that was added to the criminal code previous year through the efforts of its lobbyists.

Scheer continues to insist the Prime Minister is covering up information about his alleged pressure on Wilson-Raybould to allow the engineering firm off the hook on criminal charges.

SNC-Lavalin faces corruption charges for allegedly paying tens of millions of dollars in bribes between 2001 and 2011 to secure Libyan government contracts under the rule of dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

Wilson-Raybould said she received approximately 10 phone calls and 10 meetings, specifically about SNC-Lavalin, from the PMO.

Mr Trudeau, 47, came to power in November 2015 promising "sunny ways", more accountability and a greater number of women in the Cabinet. Butts, a close friend of Trudeau, resigned from his post shortly after Wilson-Raybould exited cabinet.

Last week, in testimony that was live-streamed across Canada, Wilson-Raybould said she was pressured by 11 members of the government to halt the criminal prosecution of SNC-Lavalin, with some resorting to "veiled threats".

"Last night you heard Gerald Butts telling a story with a totally different perspective on what had happened".

Antonio Brown blocks Bills trade as Steelers cornered into lowering price
Late Thursday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said the Steelers were close to finishing a deal to send Brown to the Buffalo Bills . Past year with Pittsburgh, Brown caught 104 passes and added 15 touchdowns for 1,297 yards.

"I am focused on the work that the prime minister has asked me to do, which is to improve the immigration system", he said.

Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau speaks at a news conference in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, March 7, 2019.

Earlier this week, a new poll showed support for the beleaguered prime minister and his Liberals falling for the first time behind the opposition Tories, amid calls for Trudeau's resignation.

Sheehan did not directly address the question of if he feels the Liberals are in for a fight as the October 21, 2019 federal election approaches.

"As we look over the past weeks, there are many lessons to be learned and many things we would have liked to have done differently". Despite being pressed for an apology, the prime minister did not give one. "I thought it was important that everybody had their say", Sheehan said. "It is at this level that we continued, that my office continued to have conversations at different moments with her".

Speaking last week, the Ms Wilson-Raybould said late past year, she and her aides were pulled into multiple conversations and meetings - "a barrage of people hounding me and my staff" - by senior government officials and the prime minister. "What we see now is that she was not open to changing her mind with respect to these decisions".

Wilson-Raybould has said she believes she was shuffled from Justice to Veterans Affairs in January as punishment for refusing to intervene in the case. But Scheer is also waging a daily war on Trudeau's scandal-rocked government, accused of political interference in a criminal case involving Quebec engineering giant SNC-Lavalin, leading to the recent resignations of two key cabinet members.

But during questioning from Green Party Leader Elizabeth May, Butts said he could not recall a specific study being done at the government level, in terms of the actual economic or employment impact there would be to SNC-Lavalin if it was not granted a deferred prosecution agreement.
