Trey Flowers reportedly will sign with Lions, reunite with Matt Patricia

The Patriots are the NFL's model franchise.

The Lions got a breakout season from Kenny Golladay in 2018 but second-leading receiver Golden Tate was dealt to the Philadelphia Eagles at the deadline. The Patriot way prides itself on not overpaying players.

Reports surfaced on Sunday that Amendola and the Patriots had mutual interest in a reunion. The Titans also seemed to leapfrog the Patriots in the 2018 draft to nab Alabama's Rashaan Evans away from Belichick. Paying big money for slot cornerbacks is not part of that routine. That's where the Lions are going wrong.

The Detroit Lions have agreed to sign Trey Flowers to a five-year deal for $90 million. Having worked with Matt Patricia already in New England, the two of them know what they're getting into, and obviously mesh well enough that they don't mind teaming up again. Financial details are not yet known, but the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport has said the annual salary range is expected to be $16 million to $17 million per year. Last year, Nate Soldier signed a four-year, $62 million contract with the New York Giants.

Like Flowers, both players are former Patriots. Flowers and Amendola have won two Super Bowls. However, with what we know about the amount that he'll be paid, they're signing an elite edge defender to less than what they'd pay a player on the franchise tag. He makes them earn that contract, and generally lets someone else reward them for their strong work.

King then accused Kelly of "playing the victim card". "I sat down with him and I don't know what he is going to say she said". Kelly aired Friday as a primetime special that showed the tense moments immediately after the singer's outburst .

Yes, this is an expensive deal that the Lions are signing Flowers to. He'll join Marvin Jones Jr. and Kenny Golladay on offense.

In four years in New England, Flowers compiled 164 tackles and 21 sacks.

Belichick is the king of letting go.

The Detroit Lions had one of their busiest off-season days in recent memory on Monday, with the start of Free Agency upon us.
