Embiid to play more vs. Raptors despite knee

Embiid to play more vs. Raptors despite knee

Key matchup: Philadelphia's Joel Embiid vs. Toronto's Marc Gasol. "We hope to show Kawhi some different looks". Philadelphia will have everyone guard his position.

This matchup between two Eastern Conference juggernauts and potential championship contenders kicks off Saturday evening in Toronto.

Toronto took three of the four regular season meetings between the two clubs both straight up and against the spread, but both teams have hardened since and this should be a stiff test for the favoured Raptors. He noticeably took his game to another level as the Raptors eliminated the Orlando Magic in five games.

If that sounds familiar, it's because it is. "I'm lucky to be able to do a lot of things on the floor, so whatever they need me to do, I know I can provide". The 76ers hadn't acquired Tobias Harris, and Marc Gasol hadn't yet become a Raptor. "But it's also not directed to the team that we have", coach Brett Brown said. When Orlando coach Steve Clifford spoke on Tuesday night before a second straight curb-stomping from the Raptors, he pointed to the acquisition of Gasol as the moment when Toronto unlocked whole new ways to frustrate opponents. "And so you can credit or discredit". "I think the Magic fans will be proud of what we achieved".

On paper, Toronto has the more balanced team.

Embiid is considered good to go for the start of Round 2, but 76ers PF Mike Scott is day-to-day due to plantar fasciitis.

The Magic will hang a banner for winning the Southeast Division championship, but the real thing for the long-struggling franchise to celebrate going into this summer is that it had the biggest win-total improvement in the National Basketball Association this season.

Both teams in the East's other second-round series are given a better chance to reach the 2019 NBA Finals.

"[Losing this series] give (s) us a good push going into the offseason because you know how important the offseasons are for us", Atkinson said. Redick - who spent several years with the Los Angeles Clippers, playing against Leonard when he was still with the Spurs - said he thinks Leonard looks better now than he did before sitting out most of last season because of tendinopathy in his left quad and ultimately being traded to Toronto last summer. "Going into this series is different because this is now my second time being here and previous year we were overconfident", Embiid explained. In the Sixers' three losses to Toronto during the regular season, they averaged 20.7 turnovers, including 18 in that February 5 loss. The storyline drama from Jared Dudley has disappeared and the Sixers are looking onward towards a big challenge at hand with the Toronto Raptors.

It's also worth noting that Lowry, Leonard and Siakam all ranked within the top-10 in defensive win shares these playoffs, with Lowry and Siakam ranking first and second, respectively. Former Cardinal Dougherty and Villanova star Kyle Lowery is also going to be tough to stop.

On the defensive end, the Sixers are still a work in progress.

If there were any lingering questions about why the Raps traded three players for 34-year-old Gasol - including Jonas Valanciunas - the Spaniard snuffed those out in the first round. "So, I will say, with this shortened rotation that we've been having I think that while we haven't played as well as our ceiling, I think that with Serge (Ibaka), Norm (Powell), me and guys that haven't played yet are capable of having big games at any time and Philly's really shortened their rotation too so we're gonna have to try and impose our will on them". "I'm surprised we didn't come out with more grit, more fight".
