[On the Ground] One Year of Resistance: Great Return March

Barbed wire has been added to the Gaza fence in anticipation of the one year anniversary of the Great March of Return, March 22, 2019.

The year of demonstrations and clashes along the Gaza border are calling for Palestinians to be allowed to return to land their families fled or were expelled from during the 1948 war that accompanied Israel's creation.

The resistance campaign, which began on March 30, 2018 has witnessed participation of tens of thousands of Palestinians every week protesting against the Israeli military occupation and brutal siege of Gaza.

A United Nations organization investigation found that while some demonstrators have used violence, they were largely unarmed and peaceful, concluding that Israel's use of live ammunition was unjustified and may amount to war crimes. The Israeli military said 40,000 people had gathered in the frontier area but that a lot of them were keeping away from the border.

At least four Palestinians were killed and over 300 were injured on Saturday during massive demonstrations marking the one year anniversary of the Great March of Return in Gaza. It noted that Gaza is "one of the most risky places in the world to be a health worker". Hamas leaders arrived on Friday at the fence and took pictures with the demonstrators, hundreds of meters from IDF snipers.

Egyptian mediators were reported to have made progress towards a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, the militant Palestinian organisation that controls Gaza, after a Hamas rocket hit a house north of Tel... And Hamas' refusal to give up power - the asking price of its West Bank-based Palestinian rival for reconciliation - aligns with Israel's long-standing policy of maintaining a separation between the West Bank and Gaza. He has stepped up financial pressure on Gaza, including cutting in half salaries for tens of thousands of ex-civil servants who were replaced by Hamas in 2007 but remained on the Abbas government payroll.

A day after he got up-and-down lefty from his knees , Woods holed out a wedge shot from 83 yards on the par-4 13th for an eagle 2. Spain's Jon Rahm, the No. 2 seed, was even more convincing in his 7 and 5 win over South Korea's Si Woo Kim (54).

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's handling of the protest was under close scrutiny at home in the build-up to Israeli elections on April 9.

What happened during earlier protests?

However, some protestors lobbed grenades and explosives toward the security fence, and threw rocks and burning tyres at security forces. In other acts of collective punishment, Israel blocked the entry points into Gaza and forcibly turned back Palestinian fishermen attempting to fish off the territory's coast.

Israel rejects any such return, saying that would eliminate its Jewish majority.

Earlier, another Palestinian was killed by Israeli fire in an overnight demonstration ahead of the main protest, the ministry said.

They were closed on Monday after the rocket fire that wounded seven Israelis and led to Israeli retaliatory strikes across the Gaza Strip, another serious flare-up between the two sides. The next day, Israel's military retaliated with a series of airstrikes.
