Banged-up Curry, Thompson playing in Game 1

Banged-up Curry, Thompson playing in Game 1

Recently, the Houston Rockets faced off against the Golden State Warriors in Game 1 of the second-round matchup of the National Basketball Association playoffs, and James Harden had some thoughts about the referees' officiating. Chris Paul was ejected immediately after this play for arguing the call and receiving a second technical.

In its Last Two Minute Report about the game, the National Basketball Association said referees were right to not blow the whistle when James Harden attempted a three-pointer that would have tied the game with roughly 10 seconds remaining.

The Rockets publicly complained in postgame interviews about the officiating, particularly frustrated with Golden State's closeouts on 3-point shooters like Harden.

Reserve guard Austin Rivers (illness) will not play for the Rockets.

Harden's three-point play with 40 seconds left pulled Houston within 100-98. Al Horford finished with 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Jaylen Brown finished with 19 points. Paul would not say after the game whether he had indeed made contact with Tiven as it appeared on replays.

If anyone has taken advantage of the rule, it's Harden - who alters his shot into nearly a jack knifing position to draw fouls call and head to the free-throw line. They'll need to shoot the ball better in Game 2 if they want to avoid falling down 2-0. If they don't, why would Golden State stop? Yes, credit to the Warriors for closing out, but the Rockets were missing shots they've knocked down all season long. That would have given the Rockets a chance to cut Golden State's lead to one in addition to extending the game.

Last year's Western Conference Finals was a closely fought affair, with Paul's absence in Game 7 clearly felt by the Rockets. He had 17 points Sunday.

Sleepwalking Warriors snap to behind 'ultimate weapon' Durant
Kerr was full of praise for Durant, who scored 38 points in the first half to set up a semifinal series against the Rockets . Dwyane Wade may have made his legacy with the Miami Heat , but he's a fan of the Los Angeles Clippers.

Despite the controversy, the Rockets hope to come back stronger. Warriors have a 32-13 home record, while the Rockets are 23-21 on the road. Just call the game the way it's supposed to be called, and we'll live with the results. But as for the Harden/Green moment that got so much attention, the National Basketball Association believes its officials go that one correct.

D'Antoni sais the team is ready for a comeback.

Durant scored 45 and a playoff career-high 50 points his previous two games against the Clippers. Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni said he was told by the referees that they missed at least four fouls on 3-point attempts during the first half. "That's an assumption nobody knows yet".

An MRI on Thompson's right ankle returned clean on Saturday night. Kerr knew Thompson would do everything in his power to play, no matter the pain. The league said there were three missed calls total in the final two minutes on a day the officiating crew took constant criticism at Oracle Arena.

"The first thing we do is we look at ourselves", Paul said.

Golden State did nearly everything right in the first half of Game 1.
