Industrial production and investments were also weak.

The U.S. says Chinese law compels Huawei to cooperate with Beijing's espionage agencies.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said Wednesday that the United States had been "abusing its national power" to "deliberately smear" Chinese companies, according to Reuters.

Liang wants to ensure everyone that Huawei does not act on behalf of the Chinese government, and respects the local laws and regulations of each country.

The company's worldwide sales rose about 20 percent past year to 721bn yuan ($105bn), as profits rose 25 percent to 59.3bn yuan ($8.6bn).

It could be delayed again, they said.

"Buying from Huawei just makes it easier to spy, and hurts our allies at the same time", added Lewis.

A decision will be made soon in the case for Huawei supplying telecom equipment in the UK.

The Executive Order follows the United States government leveling a 10-count indictment alleging that Huawei conspired to steal intellectual property from T-Mobile and subsequently obstructed justice, in addition to a separate 13-count indictment against the company and its CFO Meng Wanzhou.

But Huawei - which is the world's largest maker of telecoms equipment - has vehemently denied the allegations.

US President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order this week barring US companies from using telecommunications equipment made by firms that pose a national security risk, paving the way for a ban on doing business with China's Huawei Technologies Co (華為), three officials familiar with the plan said.

The United Kingdom is now deciding how much Huawei equipment it will use for the deployment of its 5G networks.

Last week, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission barred China Mobile Ltd. from the U.S. market over national security concerns and said it was opening a review of other Chinese companies.

In January, US prosecutors said Huawei had conspired to steal T-Mobile trade secrets, and also charged Huawei and its chief financial officer with bank and wire fraud on allegations that the company violated sanctions against Iran.

Though no countries are specifically named in the emergency declaration, both the Trump administration and Congress have repeatedly singled out China's telecom giants ZTE and Huawei as potential threats to the USA, in particular their development of 5G technology.

But it will affect small, rural carriers, some 25 percent of which use either Huawei or ZTE equipment in their networks.
