Panasonic halting business with Huawei after US ban-spokesman

EE has abandoned plans to launch Huawei phones as part of its 5G roll out, just days after Google said it would restrict the Chinese company from using its Android operating system.

In terms of 5G home broadband, Vodafone will offer HTC's 5G Mobile Smart Hub and Huawei's 5G CPE Pro router.

In response to the US restrictions on Huawei, Ren Zhengfei, the company's founder and president, said on Tuesday that Huawei never wants to "walk alone" in the global markets, but has made good preparations for any extreme circumstances, adding that it would not reject the USA supply chain. "We are confident this regrettable situation can be resolved and our priority remains to continue to deliver world-class technology and products to our customers around the world". EE will still be selling Samsung and OnePlus 5G mobile devices.

Despite relentless pressure from the Trump administration, European governments have declined to issue outright bans on Huawei equipment as they erect the cellphone towers and other parts needed for 5G networks.

"Panasonic announced in [an] internal notification that it should suspend transactions with Huawei and its 68 affiliates that were banned by the U.S. government", the firm said in a statement.

"Yesterday, an internal instruction to fully enforce that rule was issued", he added.

KDDI Corp. and SoftBank Corp. have both said they will put off planned sales of Huawei's new smartphone models for their wireless services, initially scheduled to begin later this month.

USA officials seek to tamp down Trump rhetoric on Iran
But Democrats warned that the Trump administration is twisting what USA intelligence shows to justify its narrative about confronting Iran.

Panasonic supplies electronic components and other smartphone-related products to Huawei.

United States officials this week, however, issued a 90-day stay on the ban, saying breathing space is needed to avoid huge disruption.

"We assure you while we are complying with all U.S. government requirements, services like Google Play and security from Google Play Protect will keep functioning on your existing Huawei device", it said.

Industry experts have called out Huawei for its claims it could ensure a steady supply chain without USA help, saying the technology it buys from American companies would be "hard to replace".

Y! Mobile, owned by Japanese technology company Softbank, said sales of the Huawei P30 lite, set for May 24, have been delayed, and advance orders were canceled.

China has retaliated with its own levies on US imports, but it was Washington's subsequent move against Huawei that took the trade war into a new phase, stoking fears about risks to global growth and knocking financial markets.

The company told employees to halt all business deals with Huawei, the BBC reported, citing a company memo that said its designs contained "U.S. origin technology". "This extremely presumptuous and egocentric American approach is not able to gain the approval and support of the global community".
