OPPO Teases Under-Screen Camera

OPPO Teases Under-Screen Camera

For example, Oppo and Xiaomi today showed smartphone prototypes with in-display cameras!

Meanwhile, here's OPPO presenting a "perfect, notchless smartphone screen experience".

In the race to pursue of having the highest screen-to-body ratio for a phone, manufacturers have gone to the lengths of investing a considerable amount into R&D to create the smallest notch for the camera. Here we are and we might just be looking at the first-of-its-kind under-display selfie camera and who's behind it - Oppo.

In the short 15 minute video, the user launches the camera app and even take some sample shots. This allows for a truly edge-to-edge display, but it means adding in several fine mechanical components - not to mention factoring in the growing costs of research and development, to say nothing of durability concerns. RT if you love under display camera! The infographic also confirms that the technology for the display will be AMOLED and also that the switching of the display does not make any sound. The sensor is located in the upper middle portion of the screen.

‘Dark Phoenix’ Is A Lousy End To The X-Men Franchise
From left, James McAvoy , Kodi Smit-McPhee, Tye Sheridan and Alexandra Shipp gather for a somber scene in " Dark Phoenix ". The last problem is something that has affected not just The First Class trilogy but also the previous films and spinoffs.

Oppo isn't the only firm working on this tech, though.

OPPO published its demo unit with an under-display camera via its official Twitter account.

Besides Oppo, Xiaomi jumped at the first chance it got to show its "ultimate shocking" technology. As is shown in the recent Xiaomi video, the under display camera doesn't affect what appears on screen - it simply works like a normal display. As it is an emerging tech, we can't really comment on how good or bad it will be. When the camera is not in use, the screen fills up the space above the camera. We however still don't know how long it'll take before we see a phone ship with an under-display selfie shooter. We expect that this could probably arrive by next year. Lately, we have also been witnessing the pop-up style selfie camera on a lot of flagship devices, with the latest example being the OnePlus 7 Pro.
